So you’ve waited. Long days. Even longer nights. But now it’s here. Yes, Football is back! That’s Football with a capital “F”. The regular season of the NFL is finally here and it begins tonight with a classic matchup of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. The longest rivalry in the NFL is the perfect start to the 100th season of the NFL. Not only fans of football rejoice, but the millions & millions of fantasy football fans come together to begin the (too short for me) season of 2019. Well that’s where we come in. The boys of TCP have been hard at work all off season not only bringing you football news and notes but also dynasty & season long league news for all of your listening pleasure. So without further ado…
Week 1 brings us not only 2 marquee matchups between the Falcons & Vikings and also the Steelers & Patriots, but also kicks off 5 division games (Packers-Bears, Redskins-Eagles, Bills-Jets, Giants-Cowboys, Broncos-Raiders) as well. As for this article though, I’ll give you the best matchups for your fantasy teams in tonight’s game.
The Packers bring a healthy Aaron Rodgers into the regular season and when he’s healthy, he’s an obvious start. Along with Rodgers, Davante Adams & Aaron Jones are both must starts as well, even in a tough matchup. Packers head coach Matt LaFluer has gone public saying that he wants to use the running backs more in the passing game and this will be his first chance to do so. Marquez Valdez-Scantling & Geronimo Allison are nothing more than desperation flex plays at this point that may be touchdown dependent. As for tight end, Jimmy Graham is Jimmy Graham and you should have better options at the position. On the Bears side, Mitchell Trubisky is stuck being a stream option or a QB2 in SuperFlex leagues until further notice. Having said that, it IS time to roll out your shiny new toy David Montgomery. Green Bay has historically not done well against the run and there’s no reason to think that Bears coach Matt Nagy won’t want to see what they moved up in the draft for, early this season. Allen Robinson & Tarik Cohen are both worthy flex plays but temper expectations. Las Vegas has this game listed at Bears -3 and an over/under of 46. The game script would call for the Bears to be ahead in this game, although not by much, and you may see a steady dose of Montgomery & Mike Davis running the ball. Anthony Miller & Taylor Gabriel are not start worthy in week1. Also note that Trey Burton will be a game time decision but you probably weren’t going to start him anyway.
As I see it, although the Bears came within 1 missed field goal of playing in the NFC Championship game last season, I think they will fall short versus that Aaron Rodgers magic and I have the Packers upsetting the Bears in week 1 27-21. That means I’m rolling with the Packers +3 & over 46.
